A STEAM CURRICULUM

What is STEAM?

While STEM expressly focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEAM builds on these concepts through the creative process. The “Arts” refers not only to visual Arts and Design but also to the Social and Linguistic Arts: Languages, Humanities, Music, Drama, Dance and Media.

New in 2024: Our STEAM Centre of Excellence and Innovation

We are delighted to announce our new, state of the art STEAM Centre.

STEAM, standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths, provides a holistic, explorative and innovative educational experience.

Working in conjunction with our Essex Cognita schools, our pupils will have access to purpose-built suites, labs and kitchens. Launching with our Form IV, V and VI pupils (with the intention to eventually allow lower years access), we will deliver a dynamic, cutting-edge dimension to our pupils’ learning from September 2024.

Oxford House is proud to be at the forefront of tomorrow’s learning with this rare, specialist and nationally respected curriculum.

We cannot wait for our pupils’ adventures with STEAM to begin.

The STEAM Disciplines

Our aim is to ignite an interest in all our pupils through a combination of core curriculum and co-curricular activities

Science

We inspire our pupils to examine the structure and behaviour of the natural and physical world, through observation and experimentation.

Technology and Engineering

Our STEAM programme incorporates collaborative, active learning activities including programming Bee Bots, 3D Design, computer programming Podcasting and so much more.

Art

The Arts are at the heart of our STEAM curriculum, inspiring creativity and critical thinking, enhancing visual learning and boosting higher decision- making skills.

Mathematics

We focus on everything from introductory algebra to geometrical constructions and challenge our pupils to delve into mathematics as a concept that can be applied to the real-world and problem solving.

Our STEAM Spaces

The new STEAM Centre will include ‘maker-spaces’ dedicated to:
